What is the name of a vampire book about a dying young man who gets turned into a vampire?

I read this book ages ago and I can't remember the name or author. It's about a gay guy who is dying and gets turned into a vampire. He gets sent to the 'master' because his new fellow vamps aren't getting any communications from him. There is a vampire hunter who used to be super close to the 'master', he bathes in their coppery blood to stay alive in order to kill them... can anyone help? The book had a black cover with the fangs of a vamp... can't remember too much else.. it was a long time ago.
