Why is atheist my only option?

So don't label yourself anything. It's not going to stop people calling you a word that you fit the definition of. If that's your biggest problem, you'll be fine. Just be glad you don't live in some small Southern town where you need the rest of the atheists to stop the hicks from stringing you up.
